This is the fourth time the South Tyrol-based family company has invited readers to delve into the subject of windows and construction, having brought together leading European architects and impressive references in an opulently fashioned issue. It can now be ordered free of charge at finstral.com/f04.
Our world is changing – constantly, incessantly. And what about us? We discover and invent – try out new ideas, have a rethink, apply. FRAME.
Anyone seeking change and the associated progress sometimes needs to look beyond the framework. To redefine it. REFRAME.
At Finstral, we know this process well: for over 50 years we have been rethinking windows and doors, and thus frames. FRAME REFRAME.
For the fourth edition of the Finstral magazine, we have invited rethinkers to look beyond the framework with us. We talk to US designer Jonathan Olivares about whether windows are really furniture after all. It was in this context that photographer Johannes Bauer showcased Finstral windows and doors as essential architectural components, i.e. the first pieces of furniture in the room. Arno Ritter talks to MVRDV co-founder Nathalie de Vries about serial individualism while we discuss how to create balanced indoor environments in times of climate change with Barcelona-based practice Arquitectura-G and explore the “Villa Girasole” designed by Italian engineer Angelo Invernizzi, which rotates to follow the sun. The studio-house designed by architect Kersten Geers for Belgian artist Rinus Van de Velde – with just one window – is a further talking point. Structural engineer Christine Lemaitre, architectural theorist Vittorio Magnago Lampugnani and architect Nicholas Duxbury Ransome examine the minimum service life of buildings. Illustrator and IT designer Marcial Rodrigo Paulete gets to grips with Finstral's minimally invasive methods – and has brought a whole city to life in the process. The magazine also features the opinions and answers of experts and practitioners from across Europe about how to build for eternity.
And, naturally enough, we provide insights into our own production, our product variety – and some of our most intriguing projects: presented in detail in the second half of the magazine are exceptional building projects boasting smart window solutions from all over Europe.
The “Frame Reframe” banner offers countless opportunities to rethink and reshape the world. Which is why one title, one cover was not enough for us. In this fourth edition of the Finstral magazine, no two covers are alike. Each one is unique, generated with an algorithm purpose-developed by digital artist Anna Lucia. The result is a generative artwork – a frame that is constantly reinventing itself. The inspiration: the Finstral range. Every year, a fixed number of components are used to create over 270,000 windows. Each one unique. A principle that is now reflected in an endless artwork and on our cover.
