Spruced-up public building in Catalonia.
The Alta Ribagorça regional archive is housed in the Palau Abacial, a sixteenth-century building located in the Catalan municipality of El Pont de Suert, which was in need of full-scale modernisation. The scheme focused on sustainability issues.
On the exterior, the new tilt-and-turn windows impress by the slimline Nova-line frame design. The exterior sash frame all but vanishes to leave expansive glass areas for maximum daylighting of the interior. The windows also score top marks in terms of insulation and weathertightness In some offices, the interior frame faces– as a contrast to the walls – are finished in Anthracite Grey aluminium. The interior surfaces in other spaces are in Grey satin finish uPVC to match the walls. The supreme performance and high aesthetic appeal of the Finstral windows pave the way for a triumphant marriage of historic architecture and contemporary design.
